The Best Place To Go When You Grow Up L04
Marriages have never been something I particularly looked forward to. I was aways intimidated by the idea of forming a family with someone and actually trusting them. I understood the principle of marriage and the importance to the plan but it almost felt so distant that I could never envision it. His gospel has always been a part of my life but not in the way it should of been from the beginning. I never understood the profound and beautiful impact of marriage in someone's life if they were married in the temple, I did not get the bigger meaning.
I was fortunate enough myself to be the first in my family to have a temple marriage. I saw the unhappiness all of my family had, so many problems I saw that I thought could be avoided or weeded out by having a temple marriage. I was determined to find someone who could marry me in the temple, specifically for the morals they are suppose to have and live by. I loved the idea of having a worthy priesthood holder in the home.I always knew what I wanted but not necessarily what it entailed, I thought there was some sort of secrecy towards the temple.
President Benson had a very interesting quote that I liked in the course material for the week, he basically emphasized the importance of talking about the temple to children so they one day can go. This is something that I want to do when I have kids someday, I hope to be able to nourish that desire to get married in the temple. Life is much more significant that way.
"The temple is a sacred place, and the ordinances in the temple are of a sacred character. Because of its sacredness we are sometimes reluctant to say anything about the temple to our children and grandchildren. As a consequence, many do not develop a real desire to go to the temple, or when they go there, they do so without much background to prepare them for the obligations and covenants they enter into."
